TALIPACH GATE

During the reign of the Timurids - from the second half of the 14th to the beginning of the 16th centuries - special attention was paid to the defense of cities. Majestic Bukhara was no exception, and the city was surrounded by a fortress wall. Talipach Gate is one of the surviving gates from that time. In total, archaeologists counted 11 gates erected in this place in those distant times on different sides of the city. The gates were small for strategic reasons, and above them there was most often a continuation of the wall with loopholes for archers. These entrances were guarded especially carefully, and those that have survived still remind us of the harsh times of wars and conquests.

The gate is now surrounded by residential buildings. They are located next to the mausoleum of St. Job - Chashma-Ayub. Once upon a time, there were another pair of gates located next to them: Shirgiron and Imom. But, unfortunately, they have not survived to this day.

Now, next to the Talipach gate, there is a real oriental bazaar and an amusement park for guests to relax, the small lake of which is gradually eroding the remains of the fortress wall. The walls of the historical center of Bukhara, impressive in size, still keep secrets and legends. Having passed through the gate and once inside, each traveler seems to be transported into the distant past, becoming the hero of an oriental fairy tale.

The gate fortifications consist of small protruding platforms on both sides, battlements above them and loophole windows in different parts of the fortification. Burnt brick is laid at the base of the gate, and the part of the walls that has survived is made of raw brick. 500 years later, today, one can often see a similar method of constructing the main gates and walls around the courtyard. At the same time, the construction of the gate was supervised by the ruler of the beautiful Bukhara, Abdullah Khan II from the Sheibanid dynasty, who ruled its lands in the 16th century. Today the gate is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as a world cultural heritage.
