AMIR TEMUR SQUARE

In the center of modern Tashkent there is a square named after the very first and most important commander from the great Temurid dynasty - Amir Timur, better known as Tamerlane. The square was created in 1882 at the request of the Governor-General of Tashkent, like many other historical monuments of Tashkent, created thanks to him. Over the 5 decades of the modern history of Uzbekistan, the square has acquired a new appearance more than once.

Initially it was a city park for residents of the capital of Uzbekistan.

However, if you delve into distant history, you can find out that this place was once the center of the intersection of four roads of the Great Silk Road, which ran from the ancient Chinese city of Chang'an through the territory of modern Tashkent to Kokand and beyond.

Throughout the entire existence of this park, in the center of it there was a monument corresponding to the reign of a particular dynasty. Along with this, the names of the square also changed. In 1994, the square received its current name, Amir Temur Square, and in its center there is a monument to the great commander-in-chief, the bright ruler of the ancient Middle Ages of the Timurid dynasty - Amir Timur.

The world knows Tamerlane primarily as a powerful commander who defeated the Golden Horde and the Ottoman state, but in Uzbekistan he is also revered for his outstanding leadership qualities and enormous contribution to culture and science - both in Central Asia and the whole world. Many architectural monuments that attract tourists from all over the world today were built precisely under Amir Temur. So the statue of the great ruler symbolizes the strength and wisdom for which the East has been famous since ancient times.

The author of the unique work of art was the sculptor Ilkhom Jabbarov. Amir Timur’s credo “Strength in Justice” is engraved on the monument. The design of the park consists of 8 main streets leading to all corners of the city. In 2009, the square acquired the appearance of a spacious and beautiful square, where families, couples and friends walk to this day.

This attraction is not like other interesting places in the city; it is a large walking area created for active recreation. A small cozy park across the street from the Square itself is a favorite place for newlyweds for a photo shoot. And for entertainment, you should go to the nearby Broadway.
