TASHKENT SUBWAY

One of the main attractions of the capital of Uzbekistan is the metro. The beginning of its construction is associated with a regrettable event for the entire city - the catastrophic earthquake of 1966.

Tashkent developed, and its inhabitants developed with it. Needs grew, and new solutions had to be found to develop one of the most important aspects of a modern city - its infrastructure. This is how the idea of creating several metro lines that would connect the entire city arose. It was not easy to get permission to start creating this project. Difficulties arose because of the very place in which the city was located: a high degree of seismicity, a hot climate, a complex mountain environment - all these were serious risk factors.

However, a design solution was found, and already in January 1972, construction began on the infrastructure of the future - the metro. The construction of tunnels was very difficult due to the fact that in some places the ground did not allow construction, in some underground water interfered, but, despite all the difficulties, the first metro line - Chilanzarskaya - was completed than planned for a whole year - on November 6 1977. The second metro line - Uzbekistan - began operating much later - in 1991. The Yunusabad line was launched another 10 years later.

At the moment, the Tashkent metro has 29 functioning stations, each of which has its own unique appearance, is distinguished by its unique style, original flavor and reflection of national culture. The best artists, craftsmen and decorators were invited from all over the republic to decorate the stations.

A variety of finishing materials were used to decorate the stations. Mainly marble and granite. National elements such as ganch, artistic colored glass, and various types of ceramics were used to decorate each station. Each metro station is decorated with unique patterns and ornaments; there are frescoes, mosaics, panels and bas-reliefs on the walls.

The total length of the three lines is 36.2 km.

The Tashkent Metro began its work in 1977 and continues to operate to this day. Currently, construction work is underway to launch new stations of ground and underground types. Upon completion of construction, the metro will cover remote areas and make transport connections in the city even easier and more convenient.

Canaan Travel recommends that all guests of the capital visit the metro during their holiday in our country. This is not only a comfortable and fast means of transportation, but also a real underground museum of fine art.
