MADRASAH NADIR DIVAN-BEGI

The Nadir Divan-Begi Madrasah, built in Bukhara in the 17th century, still catches its beautiful reflection, as if in a mirror, in the khanaka standing opposite. Together, two majestic architectural monuments form a cosh - a favorite urban planning technique of the medieval traditions that glorified this ancient city. For centuries, this land has never tired of enchanting travelers with its buildings built on the same axis and facing each other. Each of them looks at his twin brother, finds in his appearance both familiar and completely different features, born of the imagination of the architects. At the Nadir Divan-Begi madrasah they are so beautiful that they are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Turning our attention to the architectural monument, it is hard to believe that the noble dignitary Nodir Divan-Begi, who originally built it and lived on this sun-warmed land, intended to build an ordinary caravanserai. The layout of the building preserves the memory of his original intentions. Stepping on the threshold, guests will not see the traditional lecture hall for a madrasah. The courtyard, to which a narrow entrance, not typical for a madrasah, leads, is crowned only by hudjras - cells where dervishes found rest from long-distance wanderings and sought to find peace of mind.

The architectural monument, which by the will of fate was destined to become a holy place, has not lost its former charm over the centuries, and to this day attracts guests from different countries with mosaic images of the portal. In the depicted deer and phoenix birds of happiness, carrying evil spirits in the form of a boar away from these lands in their claws, one can hear echoes of Zoroastrianism, widespread here in ancient times, as well as the influence of Iranian culture. Its traditions penetrated into the city in the middle of the sands thanks to architects from Iran, who were often invited in the 17th century by the emirs ruling these lands to build structures.
