Khanaka Fayzabad is a very colorful place in Bukhara. This landmark was built in 1599. Sufi Mavlon Poyanda-Muhammad Akhsiy Faizobody was the initiator of the construction. This is a unique building with a noble history. The mosque was intended for five daily prayers, Friday prayers and other ritual events. Sufi meetings were also held there. The doors of the mosque were always open for dervishes wandering through the eastern lands. Thanks to this, the abbots of the mosque (ishans) were very famous in the Eastern world and were highly respected. It is not surprising that the Ishans had a huge number of students and followers.
Sufi Faizobody was a famous person who founded the Sufi center Faizabad. After his death in 1601, his family was respected until the arrival of Soviet power in Uzbekistan. The initiative to build a mosque was actively supported by the authorities. Although not the largest building, it still had a solid structure.
Burnt brick laid in a traditional style, arched passages, strict geometric forms of oriental architecture indicate that the best craftsmen had a hand in working on the structure. Along the contour of the arches in blue tones, an endless ribbon stretches an ornate pattern of flowers and texts in Arabic script.
The solemn style of the mosque’s design is also felt in the main hall, which is crowned by a domed ceiling, also decorated with ornaments. Two-color patterns adorn the plaster carvings. Arched galleries pierce the building on both sides. The mihrab points worshipers in the direction of holy Mecca. There are three floors around the perimeter of small rooms, hujras, in which dervishes once found refuge. The noble tones of the design are not inferior to the design of the palaces of that time - exquisite balance without frills and flashy colors. While in this mosque, wanderers feel calm, distracted from the bustle. There is a special calming spirit in the building.
