Bukhara is an ancient city whose streets remember past eras and can tell a lot about them. But among the attractions of this city are not only architectural monuments and ruins of thousand-year-old buildings. Beautiful Bukhara can delight its guests with other interesting places.
Ecocenter "Jeyran" was created in 1997. During Soviet times, 7 nurseries were created in different Central Asian republics, but only one has survived. It is located in the Kyzylkum desert, 40 kilometers from Bukhara. Its work is regulated by the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Nature Protection. According to its purpose, the eco-center is a protected nursery in which endangered species of animals are bred. This is a protected natural area where work buildings and administration are located. At the time of its appearance, it was a Bukhara special nursery for breeding goitered gazelles, and that’s where its current name came from. At the eco-center, they studied and bred this rare species of animal, and developed methods for the rational use of the population.
The positive results of the nursery in Bukhara did not go unnoticed, and therefore its scope of activity expanded significantly over time. In addition to goitered gazelles, other rare species of animals began to be bred in the nursery: kulan, saiga, Przewalski's horse, cheetah, Bukhara deer, bustard. Another success in its activities contributed to a change in the status of the nursery, and along with the expansion of the territory, it received the status of an eco-center. From December 1998 to the present day, his status has been assigned.
In addition to animal breeding, adaptation, mutual influence of the population of one species on others, and rational use of natural resources are being studied on the territory. Today it is a center for breeding Red Book animals recognized by the international community of ecologists. The year 2008 was marked by another international status: the most important ornithological territory. It is not surprising, because more than 300 species of birds live on the territory of Jeyran today. Not every center can boast such a variety of birds. Among them are a pair of Siberian cranes, a rare bird species. The paradise, like Noah's Ark, collects more and more animals and birds, setting itself the most important mission: preserving and increasing the population of animals and birds that are on the verge of extinction.
The Ecocenter actively cooperates with international environmental organizations, educational institutions and the environmental movement. Various world-famous research centers regularly send their specialists to exchange experience and study at the ecocenter. Ecotourism is no less popular. You can visit the eco-center as a tourist to relax on the territory and admire the biodiversity of this place, or you can come as a volunteer and take an active part in the activities of the center. This rapprochement with nature allows both students and simply lovers of wildlife to understand the goals and objectives of the center, to become involved in solving the global task of reviving and preserving the population of rare animals. It is especially important to note that families with children often come to the center, and from a young age the generation understands the need to protect nature. This is the future not only of Uzbekistan, but also of other countries. The educational work of the center has a positive impact on the local population, and this is a valuable contribution to the environmental mission.
