CHASHMA-AYUB

The source of Chashma-Ayub, according to the legends of sacred Bukhara, appeared by the will of Saint Job long before the Nativity of Christ. In those distant times, the inhabitants of these hot sands, dying of thirst, prayed to the Almighty to send them water and save them from drought. Their prayers were heard by Job, wandering through the lands of Bukhara. He struck the sun-scorched earth with his staff, and immediately a well with cool and crystal clear water appeared in it. People called their savior “Ayoub” in the Arabic manner.

Centuries passed before the master erected a building over the source, shaped like a prism, crowned with many domes of unprecedented beauty. The main one is like a double tent over a fairytale castle.

Built by the ruler of these lands, Arslankhan from the Karakhanid dynasty in the 12th century, the mausoleum still delights travelers from around the world. A true masterpiece of architecture - the holy spring Chashma-Ayub - highlights the pristine beauty of Bukhara. Without elaborate patterns and glaze on the domes, the attraction matches the image of an oriental girl, whose charm lies in naturalness and bewitching simplicity.
