ENSEMBLE POI KALYAN

The Poi Kalyan ensemble, whose architectural monuments were created and acquired a new appearance after restoration from the 12th to the 16th centuries, today serves as one of the main decorations of the pearl of the East, Bukhara. Located on the Registan parade square, this masterpiece of architecture, like a lighthouse in the sands of the ancient city, stands at the intersection of trade routes of four bazaars “at the foot of the Great”. As an ancient legend prevailing among the residents of Bukhara says, this name is associated with the location of the ensemble near the main of its three elements - a 47-meter stone giant - the Kalyan minaret. But there is another legend that explains the name of the ensemble by the spiritual closeness of the people inhabiting the ancient city with Allah. According to it, the blue domes of the ensemble are so high that they are lost in the blue of the Bukhara sky, and the prayers said by people in this holy place are always heard by the Almighty.

Legends, like scatterings of precious stones that adorn this place, give rise to thousands of guesses and enchant travelers from different countries on their way here. Whatever the name of the ensemble, consisting of amazingly beautiful landmarks decorated with glaze and mosaics, elegant patterns, is associated with, the architectural monument owes its appearance to Arslankhan, who ruled these lands in the 12th century. Having conceived a large-scale reconstruction of the city, the ruler dismantled the city palace to the ground, recreated the ancient citadel, which by that time lay in ruins, and moved the city mosque. Her name was Kalyan. Soon, next to her, the minaret of the same name soared up to the very sky.

The Kalyan Mosque, pleasing to the eyes of the guests of Peri-Bukhara, was erected to replace the one built under Arslankhan in the 16th century, as indicated by the calligraphic inscription on the facade of the building. In the same century, Poi Kalyan acquired its beautiful appearance, which has survived to this day, and became an eternal shelter for another attraction - the Miri Arab Madrasah. The architectural monument appeared on the ancient land of the city in the sands thanks to the then-ruling Ubaidullah Khan and Prince Abdullah Yemeni, who arrived from Yemen and was recognized as a saint after his death. They found their eternal peace within the walls of the madrasah.

Canaan Travel invites guests and residents of our region not only to relax in beautiful Bukhara, but also on a journey through living history - a true treasury of spiritual values and centuries-old wisdom of the people living on an ancient land.
