In the southeast of the Kugitangtau Range, located more than a hundred kilometers from Termez, there is one of the most “beneficial” attractions in Uzbekistan, the Khojaikon salt cave. The entrance to the cave is located at an altitude of 650 meters above the sea level.
Inside the cave a gallery of 145 meters length with 5 sections was built. A layer of salt of 1 to 3 centimeters thick naturally covered the walls, and one of the passages even has a spring with salt solution. One of the treatments here is throat rinsing with water from this spring.
The benefits of this place are known far beyond the borders of Uzbekistan, because there are only five such caverns in the region, besides the Khojaikon: in the Ukrainian Solotvino, Kyrgyz Chon-Tuz, Nakhchivan Duz-Daga, the Russian potash mine of the city of Bereznyaki and the White Cave in Georgia.
Termez Salt Cave has an advantage over the other ones — a unique concentration of salts in the air, which varies from 4.7 to 5.9 mg per cubic meter, makes treatment more effective.
Uzbek scientists have found out that due to a constant air temperature in the range of 17 to 21 degrees Celsius and its content of magnesium, potassium, iron hydroxide and about 20 different trace elements the cave microclimate contributes to the treatment of airway allergies, acute bronchitis, asthma, pneumonia and other diseases.
Besides, the cave air is unusually clean even compared to the air of the mountainous areas.
The treatment program in Khojaikon is designed in a way that you can combine treatment, which takes no longer than two and a half hours a day, with visits to other notable Termez places: the Kirk-Kyz dervish lodge and the Kampir Tepe settlement.
Each of the five sections is intended for the treatment of certain diseases. The premises are rooms with wooden piles and wooden beds for therapeutic recreation of visitors.
Salt deposit is under development. At the entrance to the salt cave, you can see working machines engaged in the extraction of mineral.
