The Lyabi Hauz pond, which in ancient times fed on the waters of the Shokhrud Canal and gave the residents of the hot sands pure, crystal-like life-giving moisture, gives a special flavor to the historical center of the pearl of the East, Bukhara.
Surrounded by three architectural monuments of the 16th century, the pond and the square next to it, just like four centuries ago, serve as a resting place for townspeople and travelers from different countries. Spreading mulberry trees growing everywhere here and a cool pond allow guests to feel a surge of new strength even on the hottest day. From time immemorial, this place was famous not only for its unique microclimate - a lighthouse in the sandy sea for wandering caravans of the Great Silk Road - beautiful Bukhara - collected strange goods from overseas countries on Lyabi Khauz Square. In addition to the bright bazaar, like the appearance of the eastern beauty of Bukhara, in Lyabi Khauz there were teahouses and barber shops everywhere.
On the days of major celebrations, the square was transformed, wearing, as befits a real peri, the best outfits, decorated with hand embroidery. One of its main decorations was the magnificent carpets with which merchants decorated their shops. In the evening, Lyabi House shone with lights.
The traditions that are carefully passed down on this land from generation to generation continue to live on the ancient square, where to this day travelers are greeted with a bowl of aromatic tea and dishes in teahouses and restaurants, and on days of celebrations in Lyabi Hauz it is as noisy and fun as four centuries ago. It seems that time in the folk workshops located here slows down and is measured by the works of art that are born.
Очаровывают гостей не только творения современных мастеров, но и тех, что столетия назад воплотили в камне мудрость народа, красоту родного края.
One of the three monumental buildings near the Lyabi Hauz pond - Kukeldash Madrasah - was erected during the reign of Abdullah II, who ruled these lands, and was then considered the largest Islamic educational institution in Central Asia. The other two buildings - the madrasah and the khanaka (shelter and place of rest from the bustle of the world for dervishes) Nodira Divan-begi - impress with the beauty of their façade patterns with symbols of Zoroastrianism.
Canaan Travel invites everyone who is interested in the history of beautiful Bukhara to get to know this unique landmark and feel the breath of the East within its stone walls.
